Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained the core team that won the Indian Premier League 2018 season, with the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo once again being central to the new season. A total of three players – Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth, Kshitiz Sharma – were released by the franchise while 22 were retained ahead of the December auction.
CSK have one of the most aged rosters in the league, with the likes of Dhoni, Raina, Du Plessis, Harbhajan, Bravo, Watson and Tahir, all on the wrong side of the thirties. The age factors didn’t seem to have affected the team last term as the likes of Dhoni and Watson played a crucial role in the Chennai franchise’s road to title earlier this year.
The likes of Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur form a youthful but promising lineup in the CSK squad, which is primarily dominated by veteran cricketers. With some money still left in the purse, the Chennai outfit’s primary focus for next month’s auction should be to bring in more youngsters in the squad.
Here’s all you need to know about the Chennai Super Kings squad ahead of the IPL 12 Auctions:

Purse Balance: Rs 8.40 cr (Rs 6.5 crore from last season and additional 2 crores for this season) are left with the CSK for the auction, as the franchise already has spent 73.60 crores on the current squad.
Heading into the 2019 IPL season, the likes of Raina, Jadeja, Bravo and Dhoni – CSK’s long-term servants – would be under focus once again as the franchise owners would like the quartet to form the spine of the team yet again and aim for another successful season.
